Kathleen L. (Stanco) Fontaine, age 53, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after battling a long illness, on Monday, May 26, 2025 at her home. She was the wife of Raymond J. Fontaine.

Born in Waterbury on November 17, 1971, she was the daughter of James R. Stanco of Wolcott and the late Linda (Remokitis) Stanco. She was a graduate of Crosby High School, Class of 1989. She earned her Associate’s Degree in Business Administration from Tunxis and attended New England School of Business. She was also Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager.

Kathy spent many years in the banking industry, from Fleet Bank, Bank of Boston, Bank of America, and was the VP of Compliance at Webster Bank before accepting the position as Vice-President of Off-Boarding and On-Boarding at Planet Home Lending where she worked for several years prior to her illness.

Kathy was a caring, strong woman and hard worker with an amazing sense of humor. She enjoyed staying busy and was always on the go. She was funny without even trying. Kathy was spontaneous and fit right in with her daughter and her friends, most of whom called her ‘their second mom’, whether it was her dance moves or making videos, Kathy was always holding her own. She was beyond thoughtful and aways willing to lend a hand or give great advice.

She loved being at home and took amazing care of her house, inside and out. Cleaning her house, working in the yard and even blowing the leaves were her favorite projects. Some of her fondest memories were their beach vacations to the Bahamas or Florida. She was a notorious over packer and repacking her bags at the airport was like a sport. Kathy took great pride in her appearance and was always on point, being dressed beautifully with nails and hair done was always essential.

Kathy also enjoyed the little but important things in life. A delicious cup of ice coffee from Cumbies, sitting by her pool, spending time with Dallas, Gracie and Oliver, her dogs but her most precious time was spent with her daughter Ashley, her husband Ray, and her dad Jim especially at their store, Ace Hardware of Wolcott.

In addition to Ray, her husband of 29 years and her dad Jim, Kathleen is survived by her daughter Ashley Fontaine of Wolcott, her sister Lisa Stanco and her partner Jeff Schmidt of Plymouth, her nephew Ian Schmidt of Jersey City, NJ. She also leaves behind her mother-in-law, Mary Fontaine, her sisters-in-law, Corinne Fontaine of Wolcott, Michele Fontaine of Bristol, Sonya Fontaine of Cape Coral, FL, her brother-in-law Alan Fontaine of Waterbury and her nieces and nephews Arielle Fontaine of Bristol, Johnny and Olivia Harrington, and Brandyn Brady all of Long Island, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and lifelong good friends. In addition to her mom Linda, Kathy was predeceased by her father-in-law, Raymond H. Fontaine, and brother-in-law Glen Fontaine.

Kathy’s family would like to thank Dr. Grant and her nurse Alicia at the Leever Center and Dr. Kozhevnikov at Yale, for the exceptional and compassionate care shown to Kathy.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025 at 9:00am from Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, All Saints Parish, for a Mass at 10:00am. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may visit her family on Thursday evening from 4:00-7:00pm at the funeral home.
