Salvatore “Sam” Floridia, 86, passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, surrounded by those he loved, his cats Thomas and Mia. Born in New Britain, Sam was the devoted son of the late Paolo and Carmela (Guglielmino) Floridia. He was raised with strong Sicilian values — faith, loyalty, hard work, and above all, family — principles that guided him throughout his life. Sam dedicated his career to the Southern New England Telephone Company (SNET), where he worked as a lineman until his retirement.

To know Sam was to know a loyal friend, a devoted family member, and a genuine heart — whether you liked it or not. He had a deep love for classic cars and took great pride in restoring each one he owned. He cherished riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycles and valued the camaraderie shared with his beloved fellow bikers. Many mornings were spent at the local garage, where stories were told, old times were remembered, and friendships were strengthened.

An active member of his community, Sam bowled with the Waterbury Elks Club, participated in weekly card and bowling leagues, and was proud to belong to the Lega Siciliana Social Club, the American Italian Civic Club, The Old School Social Club and The Walnut Street Club.  He treasured the brotherhood and lasting friendships these organizations brought into his life.

An avid fisherman, Sam found peace by the water, rod in hand. His lake house was especially dear to him, where he hosted countless gatherings filled with homemade Italian dishes, heartfelt toasts, and lasting memories shared with family and close friends.

Sam was immensely proud of his Italian heritage and the traditions that came with it — the meals, the music, and the deep bonds of family. Nothing brought him greater happiness than being surrounded by those he loved.

He is survived by his brother, Paul Floridia and his wife, Alice, of Wallingford, along with his loving nieces and nephews: Joanne Emanuel, Kimberly Burns, Michael Floridia, Paul Floridia, and Adam Floridia. He was predeceased by his brother, Frank “Bronc” Floridia, and his sisters, Josephine Floridia, Jennie Floridia, and Pauline Floridia.

Sam will be remembered for his steady presence, his loyalty to friends, and the pride he carried for his family. His stories, his laughter, and his generous spirit will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
