OAKVILLE– It is with profound sadness that the family of Carol J. (Morrison) Durante., age 94, of Oakville and Port St. Lucie, FL, shares the news of her peaceful passing on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at Cook Willow Health Care Center. She was the widow of Henry Durante.
Carol was born on November 12, 1931, in Waterbury, CT, the daughter of the late Henry J. and Amelia C. (Bouley) Morrison. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School and had various jobs throughout her life, but her most important role was raising her family.
Carol was one of the founding members and a Past President of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #195 in Oakville; 6th District President for 2 years and a lifetime member of the Auxiliary. She was also Chaplain of the Department of Chapeaux 8 and 40 in Litchfield County; President of the Mothers’ Auxiliary Boy Scout Troop #52 in Oakville; a frequent member at the Falls Avenue Senior Center in Oakville; and a member of the Daughters of Scotia MacAlpine Lodge #70. Carol had a talent for crocheting beautiful blankets, which she lovingly crafted for her family. Her generous spirit shone brightly as she contributed to her community by donating items for Veterans organizations and for Troop #52 fundraisers. Carol found joy in playing bingo and participating in various activities at the Senior Center in Oakville, creating lasting friendships and happy memories, but nothing was more important than spending time with her family.
Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her children; Jean Shannon (Gary Dayton), Deborah Shannon Clock (Peter Meskunas), Thomas Shannon (Cynthia), and Brian Shannon, her grandchildren; Christina, Diana, Tony, Marc, and Elgin. She also leaves her sisters-in-law, Gail Sullivan and her Niece/Goddaughter, Catherine McNamara Aresta; Henrietta “Sis” Bovin and her Great Niece Stacy Parè and family; her Niece, Adrienne (Walt) Bennet; her nephews Rick (Nancy) and Joel (Catherine) LaFerriere; brother-in-law, Alfred (Francis) Durante; her nephew, Marty (Barbara) Durante; her cousins, Marylou Bothroyd and Rita Bryant; along with several other cousins, nieces and nephews of the Morrison, Shannon and Durante families. Carol was predeceased by her stepson, Joseph Durante; her daughter-in-law, Donna Durante; her sister, Geraldine LaFerriere and her brother-in-law Armand LaFerriere; and the father of her children, Daniel Shannon.
Funeral services for Mrs. Durante will be held on Tuesday, December 09, 2025, 9:30 a.m. from the Casey-O’Neill Funeral Home 742 Main St Oakville to Holy Disciples Parish, St Mary Magdalen Church, 16 Buckingham St., Oakville, CT, to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Relatives and friends may pay their respects and visit Carol’s family on Tuesday morning from 8:00 a.m. until the procession leaves for church services at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
