James “Jim” R. Begley Jr., 82, of Wolcott, entered into the gates of Heaven on Friday, July 18, 2025, surrounded by his loving family in the comfort of his home. He was reunited with many dear friends and family members who went before him. Jim was the beloved husband of Ann M. (Farese) Begley, with whom he shared almost 40 years of marriage.

Born in Waterbury on March 24, 1943, Jim was the son of the late James R. Begley Sr. and Nancy (Panasci) Begley. He was raised in Waterbury, where he attended local public schools before honorably serving his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1961 to 1965. A proud veteran, Jim served as an F-4 jet mechanic during the Cuban Missile Crisis—his time in the military remained close to his heart throughout his life.

Anyone who knew Jim could attest that he was a true “gearhead.” Alongside his wife Ann, Jim curated an impressive collection of classic cars and could often be found at local car shows, sharing his passion with others. He especially enjoyed motorcycle rides with friends, including his longtime companion George Williamson. For many years, Jim took pride in managing Williamson Auto’s classic car and motorcycle storage facility with George’s son, Kenny.  Above everything else, Jim loved his family, especially his two grandsons who were the light of his life.  His grandsons will always cherish the hour long conversations they held, where Jim would talk about all his experiences in the Marine Corps.

In addition to his devoted wife Ann of Wolcott, Jim leaves behind three children who cherished him deeply: Rita Genovese of Litchfield, James R. Begley Jr. of Florida, and Amy Lavoie and her husband Derek of West Hartford. He was a proud grandfather to two beloved grandsons, Niko and Donovan Lavoie, who brought him endless joy. Jim is also survived by his brother-in-law Carmine Farese, his wife MaryEllen, and two children, Carmine and Sambina Farese of Watertown; his cousin, Jay Flynn, close friends, Kenny Williamson, and Ted Prescott; and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
