MERIDEN – Charles R. Malis, 70, husband of Olga Flanders Malis, died on Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at MidState Medical Center after a long, courageous battle.

Born in New Haven on Nov. 30, 1946, he was the son of the late Charles and Lillian Iva (Barnes) Malis. He had resided in Meriden for over 40 years and had graduated from Eli Whitney Technical High School. Mr. Malis was employed by Pratt & Whitney for 51 years. He was past president of the Ford Club; his passion was antique cars and shows. He was a collector of cars. Charles enjoyed spending time with family and friends, which he had many.

Besides his wife, Olga, he is survived by his three sons, Jeff Malis, Keith Malis and his wife, Marie, all of Cheshire, and Dennis Flanders and his wife, Patti, of Hampton; six grandchildren, Alyssa Edwards and her husband, Chris, Nicholas Flanders and his wife, Liz, Zachary Flanders, Matthew Flanders, Chris Flanders, and Ashleigh Battle; six great-grandchildren, Kaileena Soto, Lianna Flanders, Scarlett Flanders, Jaxon Edwards, Anthony Flanders, and Charlotte Edwards; a sister, Sandy Malis, of North Port, Fla.; an aunt, Irene D’Orsi; and a nephew, Donald Zegzdryn and his wife, Brianna and their son, Benjamin. He is also survived by three nephews. He was predeceased by a niece, Cheryl Zegzdryn.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, July 24, at 11 a.m. at the John J. Ferry & Sons Funeral Home, 88 E. Main St., Meriden with Pastor Edgardo Herrera officiating. Family and friends may call prior to the service from 9 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in Walnut Grove Cemetery.
