CAPE CORAL, Fla. – Mrs. Fortune “Booby” (Neri) Atchison, age 72, formerly of Waterbury, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2016 in Cape Coral, Fla., where she had resided for more than 10 years. She was the loving wife of the late Lawrence J. Atchison.

Mrs. Atchison was born on Sept. 1, 1944 in Waterbury, daughter of the late Paul and Maria Elena (DiCarlo) Neri. She attended Crosby High School. She enjoyed driving school buses for Dufour Brothers before accepting a position in transportation at The Westover School.

She later worked as a resident caregiver at Southbury Training School for more than 15 years. Booby loved knitting and talking to her friends, but most of all she cherished her time spent with her family.

Booby is survived by her daughter, Jodie (Neri) Bly and her husband Daniel, and her grandchildren Edward Bly and Sara Bly, all of New Haven. She also leaves behind her brothers, Salvatore Neri and his wife Lena, of Port Chester, N.Y. and Rocco Neri of Waterbury; her sisters, Margaret DuBois and her husband Mark, of Worcester, Mass, Gloria Fischer and her husband Ray, of Cape Coral, Fla. and Dolores Buechele of Wolcott; her brother-in-law, Alden Atchison and his wife Leanne, of Florida; as well as her stepdaughter, Dolores Moore and her husband Louis, of Cape Coral, Fla.; her step-granddaughter Katherine Marie Freeman and her husband Lenny, of Massachusetts; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Florida.

Fortune was predeceased by her brothers, Michael and Domenic Neri.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2016 at 8:30 a.m. from Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury, to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception for a Mass at 9:30 a.m. Burial will follow in Middlebury Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.
