OAKVILLE — Luther “Sonny” F. Kilmer Sr., age 84 of Oakville, passed away unexpectedly at Waterbury Hospital on Friday, Feb. 12, 2016. He was the longtime companion of Mary Syman.
Sonny was born May 11, 1931 in Sharon, Conn., the son of the late Julius and Lottie (Barto) Kilmer and was the last survivor of 11 children. Sonny attended Waterbury schools and worked as a truck driver for various transportation companies in the greater Waterbury area, most recently Commercial Iron & Metal Products.
Sonny was a car enthusiast, especially Fords, and enjoyed spending time in his garage working on his Mustangs.
Besides his longtime friend, Mary Syman, Sonny is survived by his daughter; April Anderson of Woodbury; his stepsons, Robert Syman and Mark Gillotti; as well as numerous grandchildren and countless great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his son, Luther F. Kilmer Jr. and his daughter, Viola Whitmore, as well as his siblings Louis, Julius, Harvey, Theodore, LeRoy, Pearl, Hazel, Bertha, Theresa, and Charlotte.
Funeral services for Mr. Kilmer will be held on Friday, Feb. 19, at 11 a.m. at the O’Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main St., Oakville, followed by burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Relatives and friends may visit with Sonny’s family on Thursday evening at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m.
