WATERBURY — Nicola Gugliotti, beloved widower of Mary (Lombardi) Gugliotti, died suddenly at his home on Monday, April 7, 2014. He was 75.

Nicola was born in Pontelandolfo, Beneveto, Italy. He arrived in the United States in 1956. He worked for Gugliotti’s Bakery with his mother, delivering bread to all of central Waterbury. He then worked as a carpenter for the next 40 years and retired from Montagano’s Construction.

Nicola was everyone’s handyman — always there to help with any project or job. He was an avid golfer and longtime league member at the Western Hills Golf Course in Waterbury. He was a lifetime member of the Pontelandolfo Club in Waterbury, where he was a member of the board of directors for many years and the boccie league. In his youth, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, and snowmobiling in the winter. He was active and vibrant all the years of his life.

Nicola was the son of the late Gennaro and Giuseppina (Mancini) Gugliotti. He is survived by a brother, Carmine Gugliotti and his wife, Brenda, of Waterbury; his sister, Connie (Gugliotti) Girman and her husband, David, of Waterbury; a daughter, Tara (Gugliotti) Deschenes of Prospect; a son, Nicola Gugliotti Jr. and his wife, Diane, of Watertown; three grandsons, Nicola Giovanni III and Massimo Francesco Gugliotti, both of Watertown, and Dylan Jared Deschenes of Prospect; a niece; several cousins; and many close family and friends. He will also be missed by his companion, Mary Marchand and her family.

Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Colasanto Funeral home, 932 Bank St., Waterbury. The Pontelandolfo Community Club will meet at 6 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held 10 a.m. Friday, April 11, 2014, at St. Patrick’s Church, 50 Charles St. Friends are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be private.
