WATERBURY — Mrs. Juliet (Thomas) Szantyr, age 86, passed away on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Waterbury Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was wife to Frank S. Szantyr.

Mrs. Szantyr was born in Naugatuck on March 10, 1926, daughter of the late Samuel and Lillian Thomas. She had lived most of her life in Waterbury and was a graduate of Waterbury Catholic High School. She was a communicant of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. She enjoyed playing bingo, and she was truly a gentle soul with a priceless smile.

Besides her husband of 61 years, she leaves two sons, Edmund and Thomas Szantyr, both of Waterbury; three daughters, Dawn Szantyr and her husband, Dr. Tim Redman, of Sarasota, Fla., Gale Szantyr Mucci and her husband, Larry Mucci Sr., of Waterbury, and Page Szantyr of North Carolina; a sister, Margaret Satkunas of Prospect; 9 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Julia was predeceased by a son, Frank Szantyr, and two brothers, Frederick and Edmund Thomas.

Her funeral will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2012, at 9 a.m. from the Naugatuck Valley Memorial/Fitzgerald Zembruski Funeral Home, 240 North Main St., Naugatuck, to St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, 100 East Farm St., Waterbury, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, East Main Street, Waterbury. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.
