Harwinton- Shirley A. Turner, 73, of Hill Road, died Sunday, September 4, 2011, at Valerie Manor, Torrington, with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Melvin L. Turner.

Mrs. Turner was born in Waterbury on January 3, 1938, daughter of the late Harold and Lena (Bishop) Strever and was a Harwinton resident for the past thirty-eight years. She was an active member of Harvest Baptist Church, enjoyed writing poetry and had several poems published. Mrs. Turner was an avid New York Yankees fan, enjoyed doing puzzles and will be remembered for her strong patriotism and love of her country.

Survivors include a son; Mark J. Turner and his wife, Lynn, of Harwinton, two daughters; Michelle L. Turner of Harwinton and Marcie A. Clark and her husband, Edward, of Northfield, four grandchildren; Mark J. Turner, Jr. and his wife Laura, Timothy Turner and his wife Kelli, Stephen Clark and Sierra Clark, two great-grandchildren; Michael R. Turner and Claire E. Turner, two brothers, three sisters and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 8, 2011, at 10:00a.m. at Harvest Baptist Church, 1440 Litchfield Turnpike, New Hartford with Pastor Martin Shott, officiating. Burial will follow in East Cemetery, Harwinton. Friends may call Wednesday, September 7, 2011, from 5:00p.m. to 7:00p.m. at Gleeson-Ryan Funeral Home, 258 Prospect Street, Torrington.
