SOUTHBURY – Steven J. Thurlow, 56, departed this life on Thursday, Aug. 23, 2018, at Danbury Hospital, after a difficult struggle with Frontotemporal Dementia.

Steven was born in Waterbury on May 5, 1962, to Frances Thurlow and the late Richard Thurlow Sr.

Before his illness, he was a talented drywall contractor who owned DunRite Drywall in partnership with his wife for many years. Steve’s diagnosis of Frontotemporal Dementia led to some challenging times. It is a disease that sometimes caused him to interact with others in a way that was contrary to his loving nature. He would want friends and colleagues to know that he never intended any hurt to anyone. In his death, Steve was able to give the gift of life as he was able to help three people as an organ donor.

In addition to his mother, Steven is survived by his children, Daniel Thurlow (and Chelsea) of West Hartford, Meghan Thurlow of San Diego and Dylan Thurlow of Morris; his three siblings, Margaret Griffin (and Barry) of Southbury, Lynne Wilson of Southbury and Richard (and Barbara) of Southbury; former spouse of many years, Anne Thurlow; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Carpino Funeral Home, 750 Main St. South, Southbury. It is suggested that contributions in his memory be directed to: The Association for Frontotemporal Dementia (https://www.theaftd.org/support-aftds-mission/).To leave a message of remembrance, please visit www.CarpinoFuneralHome.com
