WATERBURY — Mr. William J. Giampetruzzi Sr., 67, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at Saint Mary’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of Shirley (Oakes) Giampetruzzi.

Mr. Giampetruzzi was born Oct. 7, 1947, in Waterbury, son of Katherine (Summa) Giampetruzzi and the late Carmen F. Giampetruzzi. Bill was a graduate of Crosby High School, class of 1966, where he was a standout football player and attended Post Junior College. He was the northeast regional operations manager for Aramark Corporation for more than 25 years. Most recently he worked as a national accounts manager for Java City for the past six years.

Bill enjoyed working and continued to work up until his illness. Bill was an avid fan of the New York Giants and a fan and supporter of Holy Cross High School’s Football Program. He was a funny, quiet and wonderful man, who was humble, selfless and generous to a fault. Bill was completely devoted to his entire family and spending time with them was his true joy in life.

In addition to Shirley, his wife of 29 years, and Katherine, his mother, Bill leaves behind his sons, William J. Giampetruzzi Jr. of Waterbury, and Joseph Giampetruzzi and his fiancée, Leana Lemay of Suwanee, Ga.; his daughter, Rayae Geci and her husband, Michael, of Waterbury; and his grandchildren, Sophie Nowak, Will and Mia Geci, and Isabella and Shea Giampetruzzi. Bill is also survived by his brothers, Bernard Giampetruzzi and his wife, Karen, of Westfield, Mass., and Carmen P. Giampetruzzi and his wife, Megan, of Manchester, N.H.; his sisters, Karen Foda and her husband, Dr. Hussein, of Stoneybrook, Long Island, Dr. Sandra Affenito and her husband, Dr. James, of Litchfield, Kristi Martino and her husband, Frank, of Rowley, Mass.; his sister-in-law, Ruth (Giampetruzzi) Colligan of Waterbury; his aunt, Madeline Basile of Waterbury; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; and his godsons, Michael Giampetruzzi and Dr. Anthony Giampetruzzi. In addition to his father, Carmen, Bill was predeceased by his brother, Robert A. Giampetruzzi.

The funeral will be held 9 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015, from Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury, to Basilica of the Immaculate Conception for a Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow in St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.
